Gymnastics Foundation (GF)

The new Gymnastics Foundations course is a competency based course in the Community Sport Stream and it replaces the OLD Level 1 NCCP certification course. The focus of the course is to train coaches to provide gymnastic programs with the philosophy of FUN, FITNESS, and FUNdamentals.

As of January 2009, NCCP Level 1 Technical will no longer be available and all new coaches must begin their training with the GF course. Any individuals who hold Level 1 Technical and Introduction to Competition A Theory within the NCCP system are encouraged to complete their certification. These coaches have until December 31st, 2009 to complete their practical component and submit it to RGM for certification.

Gymnastics Foundations includes the following components:

  • Part 1: Gymnastics Foundations Technical Course (2 days). This is a 15 hour in gym multi gymnastic discipline course. Coaches learn the components of the Gymnastics 3F Philosophy (Fun, Fitness, FUNdamentals), common safety, and common gymnastics fundamental movement patterns (FMPs).
  • 10-week Coaching Practicum. After completing Part 1 the coaches in training must complete a 10 week coaching practicum and coaching workbook with a supervisor coach in order to be eligible to take Parts 2 and 3.
  • Part 2: Gymnastics Foundations Theory Course (1 day). This is an 8 hour multi gymnastic discipline course. Coaches will complete the Making Ethical Decisions and Plan a Practice modules.
  • Part 3: Sport Specific (RG, AG, TG, Active Start) Foundations Course (1 day). This course will teach coaches sport specific FMPs and basic skills and how to teach young participants in a fun and exciting environment.

After completing all the Gymnastics Foundations Course components you will be considered a TRAINED coach and can proceed to apply for evaluation to gain CERTIFIED status. For more information on the evaluation process and requirements for application, please contact Zlatica at 925-5739 or rgm.ed@sportmanitoba.ca
